[Arcade PC] Savage Quest - Working with 86Box

Recommended Posts

UPDATE: Talnova is currently working on fixing the Savage Quest controls, DIP switch and CPU speed. The finished build will be posted here once it is done. Right now, you can play it on Parsec by looking up "Savage Lands". The build below is buggy and uses the debug mode controls since Savage Quest isn't designed for keyboards.

Someone apparently figured out how to get Savage Quest working on 86Box, here is the download:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W3tOIMzrCj2NrG1qBtRatMkYRPbfxP7R/view

(mirror: https://uptobox.com/5884usbvglpk)

Controls don't work well sadly. 1 to Start, enter to attack and 0 to move. Double click on 86Box.exe to start.

ah yes well it seems its not all  there yet.  it seems there are some default keyboard bindings ive found atm

0= walk straight line =  lol game over .

back space = roar

enter = eat

thats all it seems to be mapped as is tried hooking settings to controller but no luck at the moment 😕

The game launches and I can hear it but the window is way off to the left and I can't drag it over because I can't see the window. I only have 1 screen. Any thoughts on how to get it to launch within my normal screen view?

Basically the game has an Intel Pentium II architecture so to launch it we can emulate in this way :

Machine type : Socket 8

Machine : [i440FX] Gigabyte GA-686NX

CPU Type : Intel Pentium II Overdrive [333mhz]

Memory : 512

Display : [PCI] 3DFX VoodDoo3 3000 (Check everything ON and 4 render threads]

Check Voodoo Graphics (Voodoo type : voodoo 2, frame & text buffer 4MB, render threads 4, all checked ON)

Input devices : Logitech serial mouse

Sound : [ISA16] Soundblaster 16 (remember to click sound icon when game starts and turn up the volume to max gain)

Port (COM & LPT) : check ON Protection dongle for Savage Quest (it's for dongle hasp protection)

Storage : HD & FD internal controller

Hardisk : select savquest2.img

Now just start and play.

PS: in VIEW panel you can select Ratio/Aspect/Resolution and many more.

This is one of the many configurations that make the most of the game, but you can learn more about it later based on your cpu/gpu.

86box config :

86box.cfg

86box config :

86box.cfg 1.05 kB · 14 downloads

86box still has issues with the controls and the emulator doesn't have the correct CPU speed. Talnova is currently trying to fix this and his finished build will be posted here once it is done, so please be patient. You can play a WIP build by looking up "Savage Lands" on Parsec when he is online.

Has anyone tried to launch the old Midway games like Hydro Thunder, Arctic Thunder, etc... on 86box? I don’t know a lot about it but it seems like it could maybe work

Yeah that's what i was thinking. It probably would tbh, i think someone should make a loader for this type of thing based off pcbox that allows you to launch img files through pcbox with config files

i would do the midway games, quake tournament edition (it works its just the attract mode is broken), the tsumo games, and whatever arcade games that is dos or windows 95 based

I've tried messing around with settings but I still cannot get this to work and it won't go past success screen. Do you have a config file that works with PCBox?
