I have a question, I want to update my MAME in Hyperspin, I would like to get the newest version, now would I have to download new roms and CHD files? If so, which one do I download? Also all of the correct bios. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

No, you should just update the roms and chds that have changed since your last version. You can use my tool for that or any other tool. Which version are you upgrading from?

 

For those interested, I have updated my scanroms small tool: https://limewire.com/d/S7IqK#EQ43YPLmJy

 

It now supports different modes depending on how you like your roms. I only have one rom per game so I use non-merged, but I know different people use different formats.
  

Usage (all parameters are optional, you can just throw the exe in the mame folder and run it):

scanroms [-mame=pathToMameRoot] [-7z=pathToDirWhere7z.exeIs] [-repack=on] [-deepSearch] [-game=aburner2] [-mode=split]

Example: scanroms -mame="c:\emus\mame\" -7z="c:\7zip"
        Will look for mame.exe in "c:\emus\mame\" and 7z.exe in "c:\7zip".

Example: scanroms -repack=on
        Will rename and delete unneeded roms. It creates a backup of every modified rom.

Example: scanroms -repack=on -game=aburner2
        Will only check and fix After Burner 2.

Example: scanroms -deepSearch
        Will search previous and current mame roms databases to help complete your set.

Example: scanroms -mode=non-merged
        Clones include all the roms from original. Bioses are separate files.
Example: scanroms -mode=non-merged-with-bios
        PleasureDome style where clones include all the roms from original. Both contain bioses.
Example: scanroms -mode=split
        Clones do not include parent roms. Bioses are separate files.
Example: scanroms -mode=merged
        Parent roms include all clones roms. Bioses are separate files.

The most important decision for your rom is which mode you want to be in.

 

Do you like to have only one version of a game which can be a clone or parent? then non-merged seems good for you (my choice). This is also the smallest on disk if you only have one copy of each game. If you have all clones it will be bigger.

Do you like to have all major games and few select clones? then split mode seems good for you. Should be second smallest disk footprint
Do you like to have all versions and clones of a game? If yes most likely merged is right for you.

Do you like to have only one version of a game and easy to take to other machines and share? then non-merged-with-bios seems good for you

My tool can clean up the non-needed roms. I only have a couple on clones, gngt because the original gng does not have continue and another racing game that had 2P screens by default and needed a clone to get 1P only.

 

1. make a copy of your roms folder

2. Scanroms and repack

3. Check after the repack how many games and errors you have. You can download the roms one by one or go after large torrents. For me it was manageable I just had 15 or so but I updated from 253 to 278, if you have a bigger gap you might have more to download.

  

scanroms -mode=non-merged -repack=on

the best thing to do is to wait a few days, I think they will add it in the 0.282 version

Hope you are right, but doubt it. Mame team prefers not to touch anything that is recent to dodge legal troubles.

Akai Katana & Dondonpachi Sadaioujou wasn't in the basic mame yes but the build from Launchbox has both, so in the future 0.282 version Mame by Launchbox you will have it too :)

Yes exactly what I was hoping for. That is the version of Mame I use. That is why I was asking if you could check with those guys to make sure it happens since the code is in HBMame, it seems very probable. Will wait patiently, for now I launch it with FBNeo so I can wait 😄

I already included the whole cave set in 0.281 & nonag, I can do it for 0.282 and all the ones to come but due to legal reasons it will never be officially supported (my opinion)

Oh is it you that make this awesome version of mame? Can you include the clockwork aquario code from hbmame in your version please? I know compiling mame is a pain, so totally understand if not possible but if you can that would be awesome.

what other games has been cut out of the official mame release apart from the cave games, over the 20 years of using mame i know there has been otheres but lost track

I noticed your .exe is over 600MB when the launchbox one is 367MB. Do you have compile options to make it smaller?

yeah, release builds only have the binary symbols removed but I forgot to do it (SYMBOLS=1 SYMLEVEL=1 STRIP_SYMBOLS=1), anyway I updated the link in the post thanks for letting me know 🙏

 

ps : I'll release 0.282 special this week and I hope I don't have to write it on my fridge once more again .. (it's hard to grow old)

Could use free version of launchbox, and check to remove them, and allow launchbox to move roms, than put your roms back after you deleted the ones you don't want that it removes , than not including the chd with this, since there separate, but just for the roms, will cut you back down to around 15 gigs

MAME 0.282 QSOUND DSP ENABLED

 

Hi there guys, I want to make my contribution to this community, emuline, that has given me so much and since this is nowhere in the internet, I bring you my compilation of MAME 0.282 with QSound DSP enabled that is the accurate sound unlike the HLE QSound that MAME uses by default, it includes almost all games (up to date) that make use of it in the different Capcom boards (CPS2, ZN-1 ZN-2, CPS QSound).

This time I bring you my compilation featuring the fully working version of UMK3 Wavenet Edition, just unzip enjoy. To play as Noob Saibot there is no auto cheat like in MKLK, you have to choose Kano then keep pressed Back, High Punch, Low Punch, Low Kick and Block until the match starts, in the default keyboard config is Left Arrow, Left Shift, Z, Left Ctrl, Left Alt

This is a 3 in 1 compilation of MAME .282 with the same QSound DSP enabled as the previous build plus Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Wavenet Edition plus the game Clockwork Aquario so you have your favorite fighting games from Capcom with the real sound plus the rediscovered games UMK3 Wavenet and Clockwork Aquario, all capcom games that make use of QSound as well as UMK3 Wavenet and Aquario are included so you only have to download, unzip and play.
