@dex77 - I am a massive fan of your SD work on MadDog etc, these SD are fantastic when displayed at native resolution in a 640x480 "window" on a modern screen. Heads above the original video by RDG.

However, when I use yours, or any, SD content in -fullscreen, on a modern 2/4k monitor it just doesn't match what some of these upscales are trying to achieve. Even with all the modern bilinear filtering etc applied.

There is a drive for HD on this content. This is not gonna suite, or please, everyone. As I say about Singe 2 and Hypseus comparisons, there are different audiences for the games in these applications. And if we can cater for as many as we can, then all the better.

@HVG - I have to state that on a 2k -fullscreen display these "upscales" look far better than anything we have already and I thank you for that.

I also thank everyone for their work in providing this diversity. Great job to all the people who have the knowledge, and spend their own time, in providing these classics in an improved/refactored version.

I think we just have different groups of people looking for different things.

it's like to put a fiat 500 engine inside a lamborghini... why?  ...those games are meant to be played on a crt screen... in a real cabinet...

i understand the evolution but at the same time i see things for what they are, these are vintage games, simple as that... no drama...

I take no offense, but I don't share your point of view. We must try to improve as much as possible these videos that were made for a type of TV that almost nobody has nowadays. This is the opinion of a 50 years old person who has seen the birth of videogames.

my whole point is very simple, unless you retrieve the original source on film (eg. for cobra command) there's no AI that can improve the details as you should clearly see from the resulting clips analyzed frame by frame... ps. i'm 37... i just have a long experience regarding video technology... but yeah, if you're fine with an average result we're all golden... peace!

ps. if you try to convert a digital source from 1080p to 4k then it's another story...

Have you downloaded and watched the videos? I have only tried to correct the problems of the original video and convert it to progresive 1440x1080 without altering the look of the original video. Maybe I was wrong to call it a remastering... Sorry. I correct the title.

no worries, remastering is (technically speaking) a digital transfer from the original footage (which most likely comes from film) to a higher resolution and in the process the image gets cleaned and the color/contrast go through a color correction (grading) which is manually done, sometimes scene by scene, technically what you did is of course a remastering but there's no AI that can improve the detail from ntsc or pal SD definition, simply because the LD source resolution it's too small, that's why the image looks sharper but the details are completely gone and screwed, personally i don't understand this 4k thing for a standard that is supposed to be 640x480 and displayed on a crt screen... as i said no offense, i'm a purist and mine it's just an objective observation about the image quality...

  4. @HVG ...sorry, no offense but this looks like crap to me... did you see at the details before stating that these conversions are respecting as much as possible the original sources? cobra command copyrights are barely recognizable, the title itself it's messed up and mad dog mccree looks way better in standard definition... this thing can't be considered a remaster in any way whatsoever...

I have another TIME LAG. It is truly the same as yours, same video quality. The only difference is in the game title, which is seen at the beginning of the video. and I notice that the PNG files of the arrows are heavier. Also in my video there is the symbol of the Taito.

I would like to keep only one but at the beginning I don't see any differences. Do you know my video? Do you know any other differences that there might be later in the game?

my version was restored from scratch and following the original arcade structure and design so i highly doubt you're gonna find the same quality somewhere else, the original singe edition was as crappy as it comes, i guess the end credits are gonna be pretty different like some others in-game details...

@montobot So I thought that I will get the game fully in English while at it. I've started by simply swapping the Japanese and English files in the game folder which have worked just fine. Then I've translated Japanese parts of jpn_idlist.txt which got all the game modes descriptions in English.
Now my only problem is that when you are playing the arcade mode, every few fights (first time after 3rd fight) you have the story part which displays in English, but there are no spaces in the text. That text comes from the swapped file, so I didn't do anything to mess it up.
I suspect that game expects asian formatting of the text, but that's just a guess.

Also the top of the Hall of Fames, that probably say just "Hall of Fames" is just some gibberish signs. I thought that I messed something up, but then when I run clean game it was messed up as well.

Any ideas on how can we fix it?

most likely you have to change and set system locale settings to japanese

@dex77, did you see this post :

Its pretty amazing what they were able to do, remasters the old cinematics to HD using computer learning. All the games look 4k now. Wish they also did time gal, bur definitely worth a look if you haven't checked it up!

thanx for bringing up the topic, i had the chance to give it a try already but in my opinion (besides the technical aspect) these extreme res remasters are just losing the original organic appeal...

i personally find way more attractive for my eyes a blurry laserdisc rip filtered by a true crt screen than any other ultra-clean digitally rearranged image, by the way, the deep learning process is far from being perfect, overall amazing but sure not perfect...

    Hello folks, @xtremebuga @leonardombn @nohero

OK, yo can play only with 4 buttons, because the 3 (LS+MS) and the 6 (K+HS) are combinations, but still need the 5 (HS) for playing properly.

How possible you have the button 5 activated whiteout the 2nd IO, if this is in the position "P3 BUTTON 5" ???

    1594674399-movie01-t02.jpg

I ask that because Im think the 2nd IO enabled collaborate to the fatal Error Appears, but for me it seems necessary.

I also think the error its related to the video reproduction, If you pass the video, the error not appear again until other time you run the game.

The error you are experiencing has nothing to do with the intro video nor the 2nd IO, the game runs perfectly also if jconfig it's not specific for it

and doesn't allow the access to the test menu game settings nor the use of blood, for what concerns the correct button setup, here it is

    gamepad button 1 = P3 button1

    gamepad button 2 = P3 button2

    gamepad button 3 = P1 button5

    gamepad button 4 = P1 button6

    gamepad button 5 = P1 button1

    gamepad button 6 = P3 button4

this configuration is for Type A

  9. This is somehow more than a "grab and play" content, this package contains all you need to build from scratch (or customizing an existing DK cabinet)

a brand new Fix-it Felix Jr. arcade machine, comprehensive of game, vector repro and cabinet plans, if you have thought about to embark on a journey and

spend some genuine time to build something that will certainly bring some color in your living room, basement or game room, here it is,

this is your chance to have some fun or get nuts while trying to...

This is the final result which with some effort you can achieve with (let's say) a couple of months of work.

    1594195615-fifjr-final.jpg

These are instead the repros included in .psd and vector .eps format, ready to be printed, I suggest doing a proper research online to choose

the more appropriate support for printing, the cabinet base color, joystick, buttons, glass, plexi, wood, etc...

there's plenty of video tutorials on YT and internet to learn how other people got this done with killer accuracy.

and last but not least, here the website where you can find all the plans and measurements to build the cab from scratch:

To assemble and play the latest version of the rom just follow the simple instructions sheet I included in the archive, that's it!
