Just a question, does the chd and rom actually change from version to version? I tried 4 different chds and roms from 4 other versions and none of them worked on Mame277.

They can best to use a 277 set with mame 277, instead of grabbing random roms and chd from sites

Yes, that is my main issue with Mame, they constantly change stuff that is not always needed. For example if you google mame sooner 278 you will see the next version is changing a bunch of old stuff

You must have issue with your downloaded files, I tried the files I recommended you to google for and they work with mame 277.

Maybe your directory structure is wrong?

roms\evilngt.7z
roms\evilngt\810eaa02.chd
roms\evilngt\810uba02.chd

Why redownload the whole set when you upgrade. That is one of the biggest pain with mame. I have not found a way to quickly scan all the roms and tell me which ones need to be updated. If you know how to do that please let us know.

I edited my previous post, was a typo, but for updates can grab from pleasure dome or retrorooms and use clrmamepro

So I need 2 different folders for each of the chd files?

clrmamepro is useless trash (same as RomVault), it shows a list of useless clones I don't care about. There is only the option for "Complete" or "Partly Wrong", and Partly Wrong is full of useless information of roms I don't even have. What I want I need for every update is a list of roms that have been changed by just checking the roms I have and whether they are good or not.

Well I don't know of program for that, I only know complete sets or something like clrmamepro for updates, and without using something like that, update packs need so to be able to replace missing files inside

How did you get Evil Night running at full speed?  I grabbed the "myrient" "evilngt" roms and ran them in mameui 0.277 but it still stutters and runs slow

Dude, read the text I typed. If you don't read the help, why do you even ask?

roms\evilngt.7z
roms\evilngt\810eaa02.chd
roms\evilngt\810uba02.chd

It is very slow on my machine too, but I have a crappy old computer.

I DID read the text. It just looked like it needed 3 different folders from the way you typed it. Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it.

I made a tool if you want to check the mame roms: ScanRoms.7z

copy the executable in your mame folder, copy 7z.exe in the same folder and run.

If you want just to check evilngt try in command line: scanroms -game=evilngt

My tool helped me realize that I did not need roms\evilngt\810eaa02.chd for example, and helped my remove a lot of large chd files and roms that I did not need.

scanroms.exe -h for all the options

Here is an example log

[500gp] asc3_io-c1.ic14 not needed
[crszone] Dependency missing: Rom crszone needs missing namco_csz1

Mame special repo for Area 51 Site 4 (it requires all the available CPU being a 1:1 emulation so without a super-computer es: El Capitan / 1.742 exaFlops it's very slow but it has all the controls and inputs active

I wrote it above mame emulates it like a real 386 so it is ultra slow, each action based on your cpu takes a few seconds before being activated, so don’t play it with potato computer
