After you put the asphyxia plugins in the plugin folder, are you:

 

1) running asphyxia 

2) setting your ea service url from the webui in spicecfg

 

The game can’t see your server unless you tell it where to look. If you don’t tell it what your server address is then it will look for Konami’s server and obviously it’s not going to have access to that. If your server is running and configured then the game will go past the screen you posted earlier and you can “swipe” your eamusement card to start the game.

I’ll give it another shot soon. Thanks for your help I appreciate it. And sorry if I took out my frustration on you, but I just can’t believe there are no clear instructions in a 79-page post. No details on which files are needed, no explanation on how to configure it nothing. It’s unbelievable. I believe I have an older version. How do you update this? Where is the update? So many questions and even with the error with the plug-in, not working it still boots into the game but only has four songs?

You’re gonna need this musicdb.xml file I posted here for someone else. If you don’t have this then you will only have the DDR World category songs even with a working server, nothing 1st-A3 will show up. In the DDR plugin go to the “data” folder and paste this file. Then in the Asphyxia web ui go to the DDR plugin and there will be a box to specify what database you’re using, just type “musicdb.xml” without the quotes in that box. Then once your server is working you’ll have every song.

 

Also, did you download the MDX-2024112700 file and paste that into your game files (overwrite when it asks)? If so, you need the 2024112700 version of the plugin MDX-3.0.4c. That could also be part of the problem with your server as well. It just dawned on me that even with the November data my game build still says October when I start it.

I think I’ve managed to get everything set up now thanks for your help! Just one quick question: when you scan your card, is there a way to bypass entering the passcode every time?

No that’s a security thing since this is an arcade game. You wouldn’t want someone playing on your “real” card without your permission. I’m glad you got it working though. Do you have the patches set up in spice? P-Free is like the old PS2 version event mode where you aren’t kicked out of the game after your set. It’s the closest you will come to not having to constantly enter your card. The picture shows what the patch screen looks like when you have it set up. Enter this link in the patches tab and they’ll download.

I used to do this in my cabinet with Joytokey mapping a button to ALT+F4.

Try deleting what you have and re-downloading it and again it’s in two parts then extracting it there is no password.

MDX is DDR, the other one is a different game. Check the dates from the data you downloaded and match them to the corresponding date in the GitHub page. In this case you just downloaded 2025061002 so you’ll want plugin “mdx-3.1.0 DDR plugin 3.1.0 (for 2025061000)”. Don’t worry that the 02 doesn’t match the 00, the date is the most important part here (in case you don’t know, break it down 2025 06 10, it’s the June 10, 2025 update).

1. In Windows File Explorer: right click the file, then "Rename" to edit the filename.
2. Remove/delete the ".7z" at the end of the filename (on both files). So it should read as "MDX-----.001" instead of "MDX-----.001.7z".
3. Do it for both file parts. Basically there should only be .001 and .002.
4. Use 7-zip (it's free and open source) for unzipping them.

That’s how I presumed it would be but after swiping the card entering my pin, the game just locks up and crashes?

You downloaded mdx-3.1.0.zip and put all those files into the plugins folder? When you do, overwrite any files it asks to overwrite. It should let you log in just fine.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but where is your musicdb.xml file sourced from? I am still running 2024112700 and I sourced my musicdb.xml from startup.arc in the 'data' files, and the results between your file and the one direct from startup.arc are completely different. When using the startup.arc musicdb file, there are far fewer songs available than from your musicdb file. If I wanted to source the musicdb file myself, is it located elsewhere in the files? Or does the file need to be modified to show all the songs - if so, how? Thanks!

You shouldn't have to source it from another file. It's just in /data/gamedata/.

Does it matter which version of Spice I'm using in order to get the network running? I just get the 'network is busy' error when I try to log into the game.
