[Arcade PC] Need For Speed Underground (With Working Frontend)

Hi guys.

I was messing with the patched version of need for speed underground when I managed to get the frontend from the PC version to work with the arcade version.  This seems to let you choose a car without the SQL server installed. I also made a youtube video of it:

video

Put the folders in the root of your C:\ drive and run the undergroundgvr.exe file in the undergroundgvr folder and it should start. For some weird reason only the circut mode in quick race and the customize car options work. Here's the link to download it:

Managed to get this working. Here is method on how to do it.
1) Obtain NFSU recovery disks
2) Follow steps and install NFSU
3) Univershell2 will NOT work yet. Press the Q key to quit
4) Open task manager
5) Get a USB stick (If your USB works without drivers) or a CD and load video and sound drivers (Most of these drivers do not work with XP embedded. You will have to do some digging. I used version 90 of the nvidia drivers (If your card isnt compatible with such an old driver try the newer ones, If you have a 6000 series card or below you can use included nvidia driver setup in the start menu). I also used the realtek drivers for audio. Audio is the most important as neither univershell2 or the game will work properly without it. You will have to manually locate 2 files for the audio drivers, one is in C:\Windows\System32\drivers and the other just C:\Windows\System32
6) Restart the PC after all drivers are installed and univershell2 should start working. Use the S button to start and select and use NUM4 and NUM6 to select items. Once you get into the game NUM8 accelerates, NUM5 brakes, NUM4 and NUM6 is left and right, N is NOS, M is music and V is view. O accesses the test menu where you can use arrow keys and S to navigate.

Dosen't crash for you after a race ?

Wait, is this the old Global VR version which required Linux and crap like that? Why is it smaller and compatible with Windows now?

It never ran on linux. Need for speed underground always ran on windows XP embedded.

I put all the folders in C:\, then run undergroundgvr.exe and I can see the front end loading and music. However, When I reach the circuit mode, quick race and I click on start event, it just crashes. It exists fullscreen at that point, freezes in a black window and I have to kill it with task manager.

Any idea what the issue is here or how to work around it?

Mods deleted my post for no apparent reason when I posted it on emuline so i'll repost here and hope they give a reason if they decide to delete again since I dont see what rule I was violating. Maybe it was an accident idk

Instructions are as follows (also in the video description):

1) Obtain NFSU recovery disks

2) Follow steps and install NFSU

3) Univershell2 will NOT work yet. Press the Q key to quit

4) Open task manager and start explorer.exe

EDIT: I see mods seem to have merged the instructions with this post. Its not clear they're to make univershell2 work so I will just repost here anyways since its in same thread

Hello friend, I would really like to put this game in my arcade, but I have no idea how to install. Below is a screenshot of the files I have. What are the files you were able to install? Please give me a hand.

Derole, could you please post/point to new method?

Does this only work with NFSU, what about GT or some of the other arcade versions?

Do the arcade versions interface with the Nytric board still (I can test this as I have an original NFSGT cabinet that I have not been able to get running).

Thanks!

its working only VM... any one make it portable for any system?

yea only virtual machine. it seems also someone did say something about wanted to be portable for any os, and he said this in one of the comments

"Since it heavily relies on sql, it is VERY complicated to set it up. The reason I insist on using a vm version, is because it's guaranteed to work, and has already been configured."

Does anyone else have access to those "Dongle bypass" images? I'm trying to get my games to work. Wrote to spiderzsoft but no responses...

Would be appreciated if someone can help out on this. Thanks

Hey guys, Im trying to fix a version of this game running in the dedicated arcade cabinet.

Basically the game normally runs at 800x600 which requires a SVGA arcade monitor. Those are super hard to come by now.

I found a VGA monitor that support 640x480, however when trying to force windows to run at that resolution, the game pops an error when launching.

I was wondering if there's a way in the game internal files or config to modify the display resolution. That way I can simply set it to 640x480 and it will sync properly with my replacement monitor.

Thanks
