Madox
Madox
Hy mate, no actually i'm wondering whether i should buy one and how hard that FPGA stuff is to configure, what is the main difference between emulation and MISTer visually and gameplaywise and so forth. Cuz i must confest that i've heard pretty good reviews so far but unfortunately i haven't met anyone who owns one and which of course is not a seller... hence my questions =)
mastershakelock
I own the MiSTer and am waiting for the MiSTercade on back order. Now the setup is really not that difficult and I could refer you to simple setup guides.. as far as my own experience with MiSTer? It's kind of like explaining Virtual Reality to someone.. You really have to experience yourself to understand how fantastic and special it is. It's not really emulation. The MiSTer simulates the actual hardware.. Making the experience nearly identical to playing the game as if you inserted the game floppy/disc into the physical hardware of an Apple II, Amiga, NeoGeo or a sharp x68000. It's an extremely unique experience.. If you've ever used one of those Krittz Everdrive Sd backup cards.. It's similar to that.. Copying all game rom data to the microsd and playing the entire collection on the physical Nintendo hardware is an entirely different experience than playing a rom on an emulator, not even close. The MiSTer is as close as one can get to experiencing the original retro hardware performance without buying the physical retro hardware. Worth every cent.. Can't recommend enough! An absolute must buy! Edited April 30, 2021 by mastershakelock
Madox
Thanks for your comment... i'm kinda hyped now =) Btw what about the controls is it mandatory to use an USB gamepad or is it possible to hook up a home made arcade joystick (arcade cabinet style cuz i've seen that on RPi projects). I'm asking that because though Mame and the likes can produce pretty good results on certain games (with lots of settings beforehand) the controls on some games that i know are little bit off. For instance, i am a big fan of Magician Lord, i owned the JP/US and Euro AES carts, I 1cc no death those games so many times i can clearly see the difference between Mame/FBA etc and the real deal. It's not a huge difference but in some passage i have, let's say, a muscular memory that does not quite fit with the real hardware experience, and what i'm looking for is an experience as close to what i experienced back in the days, original hicups/slowdown, glitches and stuff... yeah sounds like a bit masochistic hehehehe =) Another question i must ask, a few years back i owned a supergun and i could set the colors via 3 small potentiometers i found that quite useful and straight forward to match the colorimetry in accordance with the type of monitor you can have, does the MISTer or the MISTercade have that option as well ?
